Essay [

[ mood | cranky ]

I owe myself an update. IELTS is nearly a week from now and I've been practicing some writing. You don't have to read this if you're not interested in my opinion concerning first and third world countries international relationships but I'm still posting it to feel like I've been doing something. Anyway, this shit is 379 words long which means 129 words too much. How am I supposed to shorten this? Plus, is this coherent and cohesive as it's supposed to? I'm having a crysis here!

Improvements in health, education and trade are essential for the development of poorer nations. However, the governments of richer nations should take more responsibility for helping the poorer nations in such areas

Third world nations lack infrastructures and that is their main problem. Poverty reaches such high levels that proper educational or health programs are not the main issue to worry about. That’s the reason they can’t develop as other countries do and it’s clear that governments of richer countries should help them regain their path especially if we take into account the fact that most first-world companies have factories in this less fortunate nations.

Nonetheless it’s really important for their own governments to collaborate. Sometimes health, education and trade are not a fact in these countries because of the corruption they live under. Corrupt politicians are more worried about taking advantage of their position of power that they forget about their real job. In many cases, we’re talking about countries that live under the rules of a dictator.

For example, the country of Zimbabwe is currently living the greatest inflation in history. Princes double every day as their money keeps loosing value and the country’s population is dying due to malnourishment and lack of drinkable water.  Zimbabwe’s leader, Mugabe, is a rich man that has not only decided not to pay attention to his people but has also denied and prohibited help from first-world countries who have tried to provide food and medicine to Zimbabwe’s citizens.

Another good example is China. They are in the age of development but the country’s population it’s not up to speed with all this technologic progress as they don’t have an education to keep up with it. People have ordinary jobs, there’s a lot of misery and law forbids parents to have more than one child. In this case, when kind hearted people from richer countries decide to adopt a baby girl, they have to pay huge amounts of money as their regime doesn’t see this as a good deed. For them, it’s a business.

To sum up, I really think richer countries should help less fortunate ones develop in every possible way. However, an effort from the leaders of these countries is also necessary as they should be capable of making good decisions that translate in benefits for all their citizens. Sometimes, richer countries can lend a hand but everyone has to collaborate with their grain of sand to make good things happen.

Nice day [

[ mood | :) ]

Nice day today. I'm really beat from the whole beach experience but I still want to update before I go to sleep (or read, whatever pleases me the most when I get into bed). So, I went to Calpe today with P, who invited me to lunch in a fancy restaurant and drove like three hours while I slept and listened to my I-Pod. Sometimes, he can be hateful but some others he can be quite nice so I'm sharing the love.

For those who are not acquainted with Calpe, it's a coastline little town in Alicante, that has the perfect water (perfect color, perfect temperature and perfect dose of calmness). It's normally filled with German, French and English people and today was not the exception but it was kind of nice to see all those foreign cars and imagine I was somewhere else.

We stayed there the whole day, and then came back to Valencia. We have plans to go to Palma de Mallorca soon, as we found a really cheap all included hotel right in front of the beach (it's sad, though, I think it's so cheap because of the terrorist attacks last week) but we have to make some calculations because unless we teleport, I don't see us getting there without having to spill a few green ones (and when I say green, I mean euro green, you do the math). But bleh, we can go anytime of the year and I still have a lot of stuff to do. On Friday we're going to Callosa (another town I know nothing about, I just go with the flow) and next Wensday it's Port Aventura time with the lovely [info]megara_ , who's not in Valencia right now because she's having fun with her family in Benidorm. Believe it or not, I've never been to Port Aventura but I LOVE attractions and huge doses of adrenaline, so I'm sure I'll love it (and also I'll scream a lot on the Dragon Khan).

Changing the subject now: IELTS is going as planned. Tomorrow I send the paperwork to Madrid (what a shame, having to send stuff to Madrid when we have e-mail) and then they'll totally rip me off 172€ but I'll survive living under a bridge, nothing serious. Ok, 1:30. That's my queue. Lots of love, people :)

PS: Corrections on my use of english will be appreciated. In other words, please bash me a bit so I can get better and ace this fucking test.

English [

[ mood | tired ]

On September I'm taking my IELTS test (an English test much like CPA or First Certificate). I basically need to ace it to get into the master I want (I need an 8,5 over 9 which is totally understandable as I study journalism and my writing skills need to be tested to the limit all the time). As a result, this blog will be written only in English from now on and until further notice. I'm pretty sure listening, reading and oral tests are not a problem but my lack of writing since I came to Spain has left my technique a little rusty. I can't find the words like I used to so as I won't study for the test and just sit it and see what happens, I better practice and give you some little pieces of my life all nicely numbered:

1. I've started a Rome scrap-book telling all the nice stuff I did there with P, who has helped and writen a lot of funny anecdotes (he's the funny one). It doesn't have that much pages so far but we'll get on it when we print some photos. It'll be a nice memory.

2. I start my vacations on Saturday. That means tomorrow (or today, it depends on what time zone you're standing in) is my last day at work up until September 1st and that's a blessing because my life has reached a whole new level of weirdness. I've been sleeping till two o'clock in the evening due to my tendency to stay up until the sun goes up again (call it Big Bang Theory nights, if you will, but this has got to stop). You probably should know that I go to work from 4.30 to 8.30pm so when I get out I always get the feeling that I've spent the whole day working because I've done no other useful things. So, vacations are probably gonna change my biological clock because I plan to enjoy them to the max, which means waking up early, going to the beach, the amusment park, aquapark, and a lot of other things ending in park.

3. Some of you don't know this, but I had motorcycle accident on April 30th. Nothing huge, just some scratches and all, and It was the other guy's (well, grandpa's) fault. The insurance company says so as well, so tomorrow I'm getting a compensation. A nice one. More than two months pay. Yay me. Everyone is telling me to buy a car but I'm saving it for when the time is right. Swimming clases are a must, though. My back is killing me since I had the accident and that's why P says I should have pressed charges but It was an old man and I felt sorry for him. Plus, I'm fine overall.

4. I don't know what else to say. Lately my LJ has been more alive than usual and that's nice. Blogging always is and I don't do it enough. Plus, as I need to practice my english, you'll probably see a lot of me this days :)
